In October 2009, IDEMA Asia
Pacific held seminars in Singapore (7 Oct 09)
and Bangkok (9 Oct 09) with the theme, "Are HDDs
Recession Proof?" The events were well attended. We
had keynote speakers BS Teh - Vice
President & Managing Director, Asia Pacific & Japan,
Sales & Marketing of Seagate Technology
International in Singapore and Dr Djitt
Laowattana - Director of Institute of FIeld
roBOtics (FIBO) in Bangkok.
Other speakers includes John Rydning
- Research Director (Hard Disk Drives,
IDC),
Mark Geenen - Founder & President
of Trendfocus, Matt Bryson - Senior
Research Analyst (Storage, Avian Securities) and
Sherri Scribner - Senior Analyst
(Electronics Supply Chain, Deutsche Bank Securities,
Inc.)
The speakers covered a range of topics from
market trends to market valuations of HDDs companies. An
interesting observation was that the HDDs industry
has been well behaved in terms of pricing and
capacity. Whether this is due to better management
discipline among the remaining players or
cautiousness due to the depressed economy remains to
be seen. The conclusion was that HDDs are not
recession proof but we are hanging in there.
At the end of the seminars, we had cocktail
receptions in both locations with the Singapore
cocktail reception hosted by DSI.
Overall, both were successful events and we look
forward to organizing more events for our members.
We take this opportunity to once again thank our
speakers, sponsors, DSI, participants, organizing
teams and all those who in one way or another help
to make these events successful.
Thank you
